On 3/3/2010, Jailer David Osborne activated the Daviess County Detention Center’s Special Response Team (SRT) to conduct random searches for dangerous contraband throughout the facility. It is Jailer Osborne’s goal that these types of searches be conducted in order to prevent emergency situations from occurring and to ensure that the safety and security of the facility, and that of the community remain intact. The SRT train routinely to deal with high risk situations such as combative inmates, riots, fugitive apprehensions, hostage situations, and various other emergency situations affecting the facility. The SRT is prepared to handle these types of situations utilizing specialized tactics and when necessary, using non-lethal, less lethal, and lethal force options. The searches conducted on this day revealed no dangerous contraband. Only nuisance contraband type items were discovered. The fact that no dangerous contraband was found was not a failure, it was evidence of the great job that the staff at the Daviess County Detention Center perform on a daily basis.
